‘A Sunday in Portsmouth’ is a journey through a quiet night in the harbour town. Football agent Thorsten meets Matilda who is half his age while traveling on a ferry from France to England. Matilda is in distress and Thorsten wants to help, but really it is just as much himself who is in pain. Starring Swedish and Scottish actors, Simon J. Berger and Sorcha Groundsell, Sigurd Kølster’s graduation film from the National Film & Television School is a poetic and quiet depiction of the acceptance of loss. Its finale is a wordless depiction of coming into contact with trauma. Slowly opening up to things that have been hidden away. As the last step before a healing process can begin.
